I started drumming subconsciously, tapping along to tapes on the back of my dad's chair in the car. This would send most parent's crazy but for some reason, "Papa Spoona" decided to buy me a £50 drum kit and took me to drum lessons for half an hour a week for the next two years.
Since then I have been writing, practising and gigging almost continuously... I still practise all the time, listening and tapping on anything to hand, usually to the annoyance of everyone around me!
I travelled for twelve months through Asia on the way out to Aus and had to leave my drum kit behind but that really got me into beats of more a global nature... I was particularly amazed with how significant drums are to most cultures and what an effect the can have. I learned some Tabla in India and tried various things in Vietnam, Indonesia and but mostly developed my style on tables, legs, doors etc. along the way.
I live in Sydney, Australia now and try to combine acoustic, electric and percussive drums with varied effects and sounds to generate a mixture of rolling beats, breaks and grooves. At least, that's the idea.. ;)
In the current climate of commercialism, international chaos and the misappropriation of modern life, my goal is simple; to unite and bring happiness to as many people as possible, through music and drumming.
I'm one fifth of "BhangLassi" but also play with various DJ's, producers and mates aswell as do various solo projects at house parties, street parties, cliff tops and beaches where the mood seems right...
